Seaweed Facial Compress and Eye Anti-Puffiness Pads

This i an excellent seaweed solution for calming, cooling, and refreshing your skin. It reduces puffiness around the eyelids and rejuvenates tired skin. You can apply the compress to your entire face by using two small wash-cloths or by cutting out a facial-compress mask from cotton  or flannel cloth. Alternatively, you can make up numerous eye-treatments pads and keep the extras in the refrigerator.

10 stripes of laminaria digitata (finger kombu) (origin Rörö)

1/2 cucumber

1/2 cup cold water

1/4 teaspoon agar powder

1/4 cup of chondrus crispus (irish moss) (origin Rörö)

Cut the laminaria. Peel the cucumber and chop into 1-inches pieces. Set aside. Pour the cold water into a small glass or enamel pot, add the agar powder, and whisk. Allow to sit for a few minutes. Bring to a boil over medium heat; reduce and simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, until the agar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat. Stir in the irish moss. Allow to cool. Liquefy the cucumber pieces in a food blender. Strain through a colander lined with cheesecloth. Pour into a plastic squeeze bottle or bowl pressing on solids and cover. Place in the refrigator to  cool.

To use as a facial compress: Soak two small washclots in the cooled solution and place on the face. Lie down and rest for 15 minutes.

To use as eye anti-puffiness pads: Moisten round cotton cosmetic pads with solution, and store in refrigator in plastic ziplock bag. Place over the eyes and rest for 10 minutes.
