Seaweed and dermatology

Not only is the skin one of the largest organs in the human body, it is also one of the most versatile. It protects the body against the influences of climate, environmental stress and germs. It acts as a temperature regulator and the many blood vessels embedded in the skin protect the body against both heat loss and overheating.

It is an important sensory organ. A dense network of nerves helps the body to feel heat, cold, pressure and pain. Healthy skin creates the best prerequisites for trouble free, optimum fullfillment of these tasks. However aging and external influences make the skin flabby and wrinkled, itl loses elasticity and resilience.

The thymus gland plays an extremely important role in preserving the body´s own defence mechanism, the immune system. It produces a series of active substances, the main function of which is to control and activate defense cells, these are found in the skin and help prevent foreign bodies, such as bacteria from penetrating the body and causing disease. But the body is unable to produce enough of these important factors, at around 25 years of age the thymus begins to regress and the output of hormones diminish.

Our skin is a porous membrane that maintains moisture equilibrium, and regulates body temperature by allowing fluids and heat to travel back and forth. The properties from face cream ingredients such as seaweed, are carried in lipids of the skin cream, and thus penetrate the lipid bi-layers of the skin.
